Enpact Ferrol (Environmental Impact Ferrol)

💡 Description: ENPACT educates and engages Ferrol locals across different age groups in a sustainable future. Activities target urgent environmental challenges like plastic pollution, offering possibilities for action. The area of Ferrol has been suffering from an economic and industrial decline for several decades, which has led to the city often being called the “Detroit of Spain”. While this title does not do justice to the city in any way, its population has a quite hopeless outlook on the future, as the lack of jobs is substantial. Environmental awareness, in general, is relatively low, but people also feel like the green transition does not really include the region, which might be due to the fact that its location is very peripheral. In addition, Ferrol’s youth is often neglected because it makes up a relatively small group of the area’s population and there aren’t that many possibilities to activate young people. For these reasons, the region needs a project like ENPACT, which anticipates including and educating Ferrol’s inhabitants about the transition to a sustainable future. In a time period of one year, the project team will implement multiple activities, with the objective of making the local people aware of the impact of climate change and the environmental changes in Ferrol. They want to include them more in a transition to a sustainable future in the long run. The activities are supposed to take place in three different areas (at the beach, in the forest, and in the city), to emphasise how human behaviour affects all areas of life. Additionally, it is designed to engage and activate a wide range of target groups, ranging from children to seniors. By raising awareness, they want to educate them about the most urgent environmental challenges in the local area, including plastic pollution, rising sea levels, higher temperatures, and the loss of biodiversity. Besides raising awareness, they also want to point out possibilities for action, be it on an individual level or a community level. The purpose of ENPACT Ferrol is to provide insight into the consequences of what we do today on tomorrow. The objective is therefore to give insight into the negative and positive impact we can have on Ferrol.
