#EUTEENS4GREEN Awarded Beneficiaries
Estercuel is "FUTURE"
- 💡 Description
- Short film to show what is happening in Estercuel (Spain), raising awareness as a result of the actions implemented throughout the territory for its defense and subsequent dissemination of the short film. It's hard to get someone to understand something when their salary depends on their not understanding it. Before undertaking any activity in this territory, it is essential that the local people understand what is happening in these slaughter zones; without awareness there is no change. To promote the green transition, we must first raise awareness among the present community so that they defend their territory so that future generations can continue living. The short documentary to serve as a speaker for the young population, telling the story of my struggle, a story identical to that of many other young people who have grown up with the thought that in order to stay in our town they have to submit to destroying it. When I was little, I used to tell my father that I wanted to work in the mine like him so that I could continue living here. When I grew up, I managed to stay protecting the mountains as a forest firefighter, but there isn't much left to protect: Las MINAS de ESTERCUEL, a vista de dron | EL PAÍS That is why I created the platform "Estercuel is future", to encourage the people of my town to fight to stop extractivism and to focus on finding other options that would give us hope. Here is a small sample of all the activities I have organized: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mROp1yvXpEtglAPt_Qxer1EtnUVtnI2XjMPGN_HG6Is/edit?usp=sharing This process is being complicated, people are resigned. I feel powerless and alone. I desperately need help so my people don't die. After almost a hundred years of exploitation and alienation, the few remaining population view with resignation that the destruction of our town is the only escape route to stay here. But I only see that the generations of the present are sentencing that future generations do not exist: El pueblo de Estercuel contra la mina: "nos va a quedar un desierto" I am the only young man who is still standing defending his territory, and at the cost of our suffering, other territories prosper. They are opening up our towns and our province, there are more and more projects that literally take away our forests and our lands in huge truck containers, leaving us desolation and destruction. Documenting this barbarism is more necessary than ever. I have hope and I am convinced that if young people return, we can generate community projects that settle the population and provide a future so that no one is left behind in this green transition and I want to capture in this documentary both the problem and the possible alternatives so that together let's make the future just exist.
