"Green out of the BOX" challenge

💡 Description: "GOotB" is a gamification challenge box which aims to travel to 10 highschools in Kozani, whose students should complete the tasks assigned to them within 2 weeks through a fun way of non-formal learning. The current state of the globe, with climate change as its central concern, is particularly critical. The entire globe is under threat from problems like changing weather patterns that endanger food production and rising sea levels that raise the possibility of catastrophic flooding. The repercussions of climate change today are unprecedented in breadth and magnitude. Today, the climate situation has reportedly reached a breaking point, necessitating rapid action. People are all at risk from and concerned about climate change, which is neither a personal issue nor one that solely impacts a particular segment of the community. This is why the response to the threat of climate change needs to be massive and collective. Public and private stakeholders, as well as civil society organizations, have a major task ahead: to raise awareness about the existence of these environmental challenges and what can be done to reduce their negative impact. “GO Alive” as a non-profit youth organization that focuses on the empowerment and the well-being of young people, reflects on its responsibility to act on the issue of climate change. Thus, this team came up with the idea of “Green out of the Box''. "Green Out of the Box" is a physical gamification challenge box which aims to travel to 10 high schools in the regional unit of Kozani. The students of each school that will take part in the action should complete the tasks assigned to them within 2 weeks through a fun way of non-formal learning while finding solutions to "green challenges'' and current local environmental problems that will be presented. When the challenge is completed, the school students select another "green" problem that our area is facing, prepare a "new" environmental task and challenge the next school in order to continue the “Green Box” path. The goal is for the "Green Box" to be moved to all high schools that have signed in and to create awareness among secondary school students and the community, where the target group will be able to recognize contemporary environmental problems and act about them in several ways. During the 2-week period of each challenge, “GO Alive” will offer guidance, and mentoring and deliver one training session to the teachers of the school and one to the students based on “GreenComp”, the European sustainability competence framework. Finally, a closing event will be held in which the results of the action will be presented to the wider public and stakeholders.
🎯 Target Group: 10 high schools in the regional unit of Kozani
🌱 Expected Results: Apart from the impact on the students and the teachers of the 10 schools on a personal level, the project will have a great impact on the local community in general through the accomplishment of tangible challenges referring to local existing ecological issues. At least, 10 missions referring to ecological and sustainable challenges in 10 different neighbourhoods of the regional unit of Kozani will be accomplished by the students and their results will be enjoyed by the local residents. Also, local stakeholders and decision-makers will get in touch with the results and the objectives of our project and see how fresh and, maybe, innovative solutions arise to common issues.
