- 💡 Description
- We want to restore the garden at our school, build a relaxing spot and start a club that gives the students of Bobov dol an opportunity to learn about important environmental topics.\n\"We are students at Vocational High School Bobov dol, Kyustendil region. This year our school celebrated its 70th anniversary, so now we will tell you a little more about it. At first, it was a school for miners, but it later became a school for electricians. The area where we live contains the largest underground coal mine in our region. That was the primary source of livelihood in Bobov dol and was closely related to underground and open pit mining of brown coal. These mines have been closed for more than 5 years now. The town is located on former underground excavations that have led to the subsidence of the strata and to this landslide of land masses that are close to our school. The municipality decided to install a wall to protect against further damage. However, the problem is that all the greenery growing in the area has been cut down and left behind. This is where we came up with our\nidea. We wanted to bring all the greenery back to what it was and create a beautiful garden with approximate land of 800 square meters for our students and other citizens of Bobov dol to enjoy, but of course, we are not professionals, so we would have to consult a gardening company to get the best plant sorts for the area. Simultaneously, we were planning to start an afforestation club that will not only teach more students how to properly plant a tree (and more) but also encourages participation of the community in the area.\nBut before the students can start planting, they have to go through educational lessons so we can be sure that all the plants will be planted properly and that every participant is competent enough to work with the tools that we will provide. The idea is to motivate young students to do activities beneficial to nature and society and, by doing so they would be able to enjoy the better looking environment around them knowing that they are a part of it. We are trying to implement this tradition that will be passed down to other younger students and this cycle will keep repeating for good. Besides the garden that we're restoring, we were thinking about creating a relaxing spot for students to rest and socialise during their recess and we also considered constructing an \"\"activity area\"\" where they would have the opportunity to do different types of exercises by providing them with several fitness\nequipment. This space will be renovated and reequipped onto the old ground in the schoolyard.\n
- 🎯 Target Group
- 🌱 Expected Results
- Increase in green areas around the city, younger people being more educated and physically active while thinking more \"green\", creating a connection between them and the nature and spreading what they have learned from our project. We expect approximatley 40-50 students and other citizens of Bobov dol to benefit from our activities.
