💡 Description: Educational Center for Green Energy, Transition and New Methods of Energy Production at the old Municipality building of Filotas, Greece. This project's proposal focuses on two key pillars: access to the information of the new technologies proposed for the decarbonisation of Western Macedonia by leaving the old production methods of lignite and secondly, involvement of the youth in the transition process while being in communication and transfer of knowledge with the local, national and European authorities. The transition process of the lignite areas of Western Macedonia occurs with many differences in the new production model, with lots of environmental, economic and social issues to arrive. Especially, Municipalities of Energy like Florina, Amyntaion and Ptolemaida are being challenged and they are focusing on their youth community which fears a future of abandonment. JusT4Youth's key idea is to proceed by developing green infrastructure actions and ecosystem-based approaches in urban areas to increase their resilience to climate change and also to provide development and implementation of policies or actions to improve ambient air quality so as not to cause negative effects or risks to human health and the environment. The formation of a new green energy standard in parallel with the sustainable development of Western Macedonia is a demanding and very reasonable need for the Region and imposes the rational education and information of the citizens. For all these reasons, they propose –in cooperation with the Energy Municipality of Amyntaion– to provide, develop and reinforce an Educational Center for Green Energy, Transition and New Methods of Energy Production. This Center, which already operates in the township of Filotas, provides educational material, and educational actions and hosts visits to primary and secondary schools of the lignite region of Western Macedonia. The project will enhance and expand the activities of the centre, and will increase awareness of young people on issues related to the EU Green Deal, the Just Transition, the Climate Crisis and our roles and responsibilities as consumers and citizens in order to participate in the transition process.
🎯 Target Group
🌱 Expected Results: Thus, they propose the below thematic axis of actions and activities of our proposal: A media campaign throughout the Region and also at the national level for promoting the values of the green transition and youth involvement. The target groups are pupils, youngsters and their families in order to learn that the Educational Center is operating and is open for visits. A campaign throughout the schools and University of the Region of Western Macedonia for raising awareness about energy poverty, youth involvement in the Transition process and green mobility. Local school and university visits to the Educational Center for Green Transition and Renewable Energy Sources. The aim is to host the vast majority of schools in the Region and further (12 visits, each visit 25 to 50 pupils – students in total 600 visitors and teachers). Workshops in the Educational Center for Green Transition and Renewable Energy (5 workshops and group meetings of the voluntary youth group and youngsters). Open day event for closing the project gathering families and students in an Eco food fest for Environment more than 200 people are expected to attend the event.
