EUTEENS4GREEN Projects
#EUTEENS4GREEN Awarded Beneficiaries
Green Rural Youth Network
- 💡 Description
- This project seeks to deepen their knowledge of the environment and to find solutions to mitigate the climate crisis with the help of experts in the field of socio-ecology and biocultural knowledge. As young people from a rural environment in the aridest area of Europe (where forecasts predict that we will be one of the first climate-displaced people in the EU), they are aware of the environment in which they live and its high ecosystem degradation, which will unequivocally mean a decrease in our quality of life. Moreover, in rural environments such as theirs, with an ageing population, it is them, the young people, who have more resources to obtain information about the climate crisis, more tools to disseminate this information to those people who are less exposed to this information (and at greater risk), as well as a higher capacity for action. The project considers it essential to carry out lasting actions in our municipality that involve from the youngest to the oldest age groups. They believe in the creation of a network of alliances that follows the principles of GRYN – the Green Rural Youth Network, which is also based on the European Green Deal and that can be adopted by other entities at the national and European levels, thanks to our work in these areas over the years – taking as an example our collaboration with other entities at the regional level, as well as with the Spanish National Rural Network and our extensive experience in European projects. This project seeks to deepen our knowledge of the environment by offering lectures and activities targeted at the general public, as well as to find solutions to mitigate and/or adapt to the climate crisis from a scientific point of view –with the help of experts in the field of socio-ecology, but also from the biocultural knowledge perspective, transmitted from generation to generation, which has shaped the landscape and the relationships we have with the environment, in order to find balance. This project will be able to measure its impact on the local population with an initial and final survey that will help us to assess the knowledge of the climate crisis. It will contribute to the recovery and regeneration of the biodiversity of an ecosystem such as the riverside, and this action will be useful to raise awareness of nature-based solutions. All of GRYN's actions will have a wider reach thanks to the planned dissemination activities on social media, a specific website and podcast series creation. They have envisioned a 1-year project. GRYN Green Transition Awareness Survey. Carried out with teachers at the local schools at the beginning and end of the project to assess students’ level of awareness on the subject. - "From Shock to Awareness". Series of 9 conferences which will combine lectures on scientific and biocultural knowledge. It'll be launched with the making of an Instagram Reels/TikTok video showcasing the negative effects of climate change in our area. - Collective Green Action " Towards the riverside forest". This will be our main tangible action when it comes to nature-based solutions to palliate climate crisis. We will plant trees in our village’s most well-known setting in nature, which is not exempt from menaces like the lack of water. Field trips with the children at the local schools every month to generally supervise their growth. This will be “Towards the riverside forest”+1, +2... until reaching project completion. - Podcasts Cycle “From Shock to Awareness”. Aimed at sharing knowledge in a dynamic way during the summer when the conferences will be suspended—together with the local radio station, posted on our website, social media and iVoox. - "Towards the Forest (Brain) Storm". Special field trip. Dynamic, participatory brainstorming sessions to come up with new ideas for the future to strengthen GRYN as a youth network working for a more just transition. Healthy snacks at the picnic area. - Mycologic Days in Sierro. The programme includes conferences, good practices on mushroom picking, exhibitions, cooking classes, mushroom hunting expeditions and more. - Olive Oil Soap Workshop. This is a craft that has been practised in our area for over a century. We will promote the reuse of olive oil, and the recycling of used milk or juice cartons to use as the soap cast. - GetCook Seasonal Produce for Families. Kids and grandparents’ tour to the weekly farmers market facilitated by a nutritionist who will explain the importance of consuming seasonal produce grown locally; followed by a cooking class. - Esparto Grass Workshop. There are not many artisans left who know how to work it, and we would like to bring it back so that this technique doesn't disappear. - GRYN hunts Trash + Photo Contest. Beforeafter scenes on social media to highlight the relevance of clean nature. - The Intergenerational Human Library of the Countryside. Human books will tell their life story in the countryside, ancient techniques and crafts.
