- 💡 Description
- The Green Soul project - Youth against climate change, was born out of the need to raise awareness and train the citizens of our region about climate change, encourage their active participation.\n\"For this, we propose to carry out experiential training paths, carried out in natural environments of our region, accompanied by a communication and awareness activity about the direct experience lived, linked to the impact of climate change.\nThe informative and training activities will be structured within the first Youth Climate Hub in Spain, a meeting point for young people, trainers, representatives of associations, activists, policy makers, journalists, green entrepreneurs and all those people and entities that want to contribute, through of information, networking and volunteering, to sensitize citizens about the impact of climate change.\nThe Hub will be a physical space, but it will also have a virtual space, with the idea of involving as many stakeholders as possible.\nThis space will strengthen synergies between the different local realities that are dedicated to promotion and awareness, as well as foster student activism, promote the defense of human rights, exclude the promotion of scientific dissemination and contribute to creating new initiatives for social entrepreneurship and sustainable volunteering.\nOur team will travel to the secondary schools of A Coruña to increase the visibility of the project and the number of participants, who will thus be able to learn more about the activities and services offered.\nWe will start by offering training on Climate Change, Environmental Activism, European Environmental Law and Funding, Volunteering and Environmental Entrepreneurship.\nWe will continue creating teams that will be able to develop their own awareness campaign, as well as carry out environmental volunteering in one of the already identified Natura2000 areas of A Coruña.\nWe will finish with a final event where we will bring together activists, representatives of local political institutions, green entrepreneurs and environmental entities, in addition to the participants, in order to share the experiences and to reinforce the synergies between the different stakeholders.\n\n
- 🎯 Target Group
- 🌱 Expected Results
- \"Although local, national and European authorities are already working on raising awareness related to climate change, we believe that a greater participation of young people, who will be the protagonists of the design of all activities, can contribute to making a more significant impact among the community, in addition to reinforcing transversal skills and turning these young people into leaders against climate change.\nThis will be an invaluable experience for these youth leaders, who will be supported to become local champions of climate change awareness among their peer groups. The foreseen impact of this activity on local participants is the future establishment of community green spaces where young people in the community can approach their newly trained peer leaders to discuss about climate change issues, how to find a financial support to run new initiatives, how to get in contact with local actisivist and green NGOs and to learn where they can find additional support if needed.\nWhile it is difficult to estimate the overall impact of the GREEN SOUL project at application stage, the project team will follow the model proposed in the Impact+ methodology and aim to have a meaningful impact on learners engaged in the project, project staff, affiliated organisations and at a systemic level. \nGS aims to provide enriching learning experiences for all staff and organisations involved, as well establish new relationships and projects at local, regional, national and european level.\nOn a systemic level, GS aims to establish a model of best practice in empowering young people to take action against the impact of the climate change in their lifes and globally, that can be transferred to other communities nationally and across Europe thanks to our dissemination strategy. \nThe sustainable approach to peer youth leadership proposed by the project is to first deliver a project that is specific to the learning needs, styles and interests of local young people in our province, and then to build a model which can be transferred to other communities in the GALICIA region, nationwide and then throughout Europe. \nTackling instances of climate change through targeted climate change awareness campaigns and education is a global concern; and while the project initially targets a sustainable and long-term impact among front-line youth workers and teachers and young people on a local level, the methodologies used to deliver this project in local communities will be transversal. Up-skilling teachers and training young people to become peer leaders on the topic of climate change awareness is not something that will be unique to the young people in communities where GS will be piloted. \nProject team have set the following impact objectives for the project at local, regional, national and European levels:\n1.Local level: GS will train young leaders to build the competence and confidence to harness the potential of social media and online learning environments to raise climate change awareness levels, It will also provide people with the skills they need to become competent peer leaders and to promote climate change awareness among their peers. The project will also reach 240 young people who will engage with the awareness campaigns and the learning resources. \n2.Regional level: we will disseminate the project outputs and approach to youth educators, youth groups and regional NGOs working in the field of environment, but also those that offer training opportunities in the field of diversity, inclusion and social entrenpreneurship.\nWe aim to transfer these materials and practices to other organisations and associations in our region, so that they can access the materials online and provide their own up-skilling programmes for front-line youth workers and peer leadership programme to young people in their centres. \nThe focus of the GREEN SOULS exploitation actions will be to engage regional youth practitioners and to support them to take the GREEN SOILS model and outputs and apply them to young people in their local groups.\n3.National level: it can be promoted with national stakeholders working in the youth and climate change prevention fields; and can be transferred to youth groups throughout other countries in wich we have partners that cooperate with us in other projects. At a national level, we will also engage national bodies responsible for youth\ndevelopment, youth leadership, peer education, substance abuse education, etc. to showcase the GREEN SOULS approach as a model of best practice for engaging young people in peer education and empowering them to promote climate change awareness among their peers.\n4.European level: As well as transferring the project model to other youth providers across Europe, the real impact of the project at a European level is that the front-line youth workers and the peer youth leaders who complete the training programme will be supported to establish a network of like minded individuals in other countries.\n
