Identity in Transition!
- 💡 Description
- The project idea is to connect the youth in Jiu Valley with the mining heritage with the objective that the transition will not break the youngster-community bond. Because transition always comes with uncertainty and change, it usually develops anxiety, and when people are building the future they must not forget the pillars that the society has been formed on. In Jiu Valley, ever since the 1980s mining was the most important source of income but, at the same time, it was the playground of children, the driver for cultural activities, and the place where cultural exchanges have happened. It was a context of specific architecture, day-to-day habits, and community involvement mechanisms (unionized, street art events, etc.) All these have formed an identity. Transition is, as upper mentioned, a disruptive process and members of the community and especially youngsters are looking with circumspect eyes. Without a local identity, without activities of awareness regarding the heritage and history of the region, the possibility to migrate raises exponentially because it is very hard to define a new future in the collective mind of the community. But, to have a clear understanding of what was the development of the region since 200 years, to be given examples of hardworking people, and to understand the distress and sacrifices done in mining times at a young age is a motivator to stick by a community to engage and to support its transition into being a JUST Transition. There is very small knowledge of the history of the region, and heritage that came with industrialization among youngsters, little activities are done to exemplify the engagement of workers and less than little activities put into a debate about the transition process, why it is needed, what the costs aside from that material are and what we need to keep from the process. This project aims to put the "transition" concept at a grass root level, debate its justness, and what the youngster's view is, but in a context of identity knowledge. The following activities are planned for the project: A1. One opening conference and promoting activities. 'Identity in Transition!' will organize an opening conference at the start of the project, where they will announce the activities planned and the platform where youngsters can join freely.
