#EUTEENS4GREEN Awarded Beneficiaries
DRYAD
- 💡 Description
- DRYAD connects young people with nature to boost their environmental awareness and mental well-being. It encourages environmental consciousness + raises awareness through social media well-being retreats. "Inspired by Greek mythology and specifically from the “mythos” (story) of the nymphs called Dryades, who were goddesses of the trees, we aspire to protect our mountains and forests, by connecting young people with nature. Dryades used to live in forests and their omnipotent powers were drawn from nature, which they pledged to protect against human threat. Using their life mission as one of the project's pylons/scopes, we aim to influence our peers in order to boost their environmental awareness and assist them in creating new ecological and healthy lifestyle habits. The other pylon of this project is directed to mental health and well- being. We are living in stressful times, especially in Western Macedonia, which is the third region in Europe with the highest youth unemployment rates (Eurostat 2022), where well-being and mental health are highly important. Many young people are, struggling to enjoy life while searching for a job, and for these reasons, there is a huge migration wave from young people towards bigger cities, distancing them from nature and their natural environment. We aim to address anxiety and depression, through helping young people, who are living in Western Macedonia, connect with their natural environment. There will be a double gain, both for the environment and for young people. DRYAD will also inspire youth in order to build healthier environmentally conscious habits (use of greener means of transportation, reuse, recycle, repair, choosing local sourced and healthier products etc.). Research shows that people with a greater connection to nature are more likely to behave positively towards the environment, wildlife and habitats. Developing an enduring relationship between people and nature, connecting people, may be critical for future nature conservation. The project’s goal is to provide every person with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, values, attitudes, commitment and skills needed to protect and improve the environment, and to create new patterns of behavior of individuals, groups and society as a whole towards the environment. We aim to raise awareness, using our social media, where our team is quite active, through content creation. Then we will get on the field, by organizing two eco well-being retreats at the local mountains, were we will explore and enjoy nature, while engaging with mindfulness and sports."
