Just Youth Energy Transition Academy

💡 Description: Empower young people to become active in the energy transition through the Just Youth Energy Transition Academy focused on Renewable Energy applications.
🎯 Target Group: This project aims to empower young people to become active players in promoting an inclusive and participative energy transition in Portuguese territories that have been most dependent on carbon-intensive industries, focusing on Alentejo Litoral due to the sudden closure of the Sines thermal power plant and the resulting loss of jobs.
🌱 Expected Results: Young people from these regions will have the opportunity to take an active role in the energy transition by providing them with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills through the Youth Energy Academy (YEA), using non-formal education methods. The Academy will be about 5-week long, of 2-3 hours per week, and for around 25 participants covering 5 different modules: “Energy trilemma”, “Distributed renewable energy (DRE)”, “People Power”, “Resource mobilisation”, “Social Business”. After the virtual sessions, a in-person 3-day Energy Workshop for 15 participants will be hold covering 3 extra modules: modules: “DRE on the ground” - Field visit to community RE projects; and Sessions to support the development of project ideas (complementing the Module “From idea to action”), plus the “Do-it-Together” Module - Practical workshop on energy systems design and building. At the end, it is intended to map relevant stakeholders and build a network to leverage resources and partners allowing to scale-up the program afterwards as well as scaling-deep by providing meaningful support to alumni in implementing projects.
