"Development and implementation of a three-round competition on eco-energy efficient architecture with the participation of students teams from hungarian secondary schools of architecture. Graduating construction seconadary schools are the main body/great mass of the construction industry. This industry has a very significant footprint on the environment, so awareness-raising should start during the secondary school years. Eco-conscious technologies are not part of the traditional curriculum in Hungary. Therefore, this competition is also a niche for knowledge transfer, too. It is important for pupils and students to learn about how modern equipment can make a building eco-conscious, and how a few hudnred years ago, building materials were used that could be returned to nature at the end of their life without demaging it. Many people do not know, for example, how beneficial adobe masonry is for maintaning a positive indoor climate, or how different it is to live in „breathing walls”, creating a different quality olf living space than wrapped in plastic bubbles. The competition gives students the opportunitiy to explore this knowledge in the most impressive way, by discovering for themselves the pros and cons of one solution or another. They will be helped to find their way around, they will be given coaching, but they will also have to use their own creativity to suggest a question on how they would like to see an environmentally sustainable building. The competition is open to teams of three secondary students (15-19 years old) with a mentor teacher. During the six months of more intensiv work, they will learn project-work, research and develop their creativity in a supportive enviroment. Two of the three rounds will be held online, and the final will be decided between the 5 best performing team sin a face-to-face competition in Pécs. The finalist teams will present their eco-house conception (via draw, design, modell, descriptions) to each other and to the lecturers of the University of Pécs- Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and teachers of the SzC Pollack Mihály College and Technical School of Baranya county. The competition is also a learning process, and the best solutions will be made avaliable to all construction tehcnical colleges.
