Promoting Circular Economy in Just Transition Regions
- 💡 Description
- Promoting Circular Economy in Just Transition Regions wants to establish a collaboration between two just transition regions of Greece in order to promote the principles of circular economy, by organizing two events and establishing a website hub. The central idea is to organize two events in Greece, one in each just transition region (i.e., Chania on the island of Crete and Florina in the region of West Macedonia), and also create a website on circular economy. Each event will be a one-day workshop, where academics, professors, and experts who work in the circular economy field, as well as entrepreneurs who already adopted circularity practices in their businesses and companies, will be invited to present their case studies, discuss the concept of circular economy, and explain the benefits that this circular approach can bring to our economies but most importantly to the environment. They will organize the events in two cities (Chania, and Florina) of their regions. Each event will comprise a series of talks with QA sessions and a final workshop-open discussion with the audience. They will promote the events by starting a promotional campaign early. For this, the project will create a website that will help not only to promote the events and add all necessary information about them but will serve as a library to present the concept of a circular economy through relevant literature and also as a demonstration hub with relevant successful case studies from our regions and other areas; for this reason, the website will stay live even after the two events are completed and we will keep updating it.
- 🎯 Target Group
- 🌱 Expected Results
- They expect that their cities and regions will benefit from our project. Raising the awareness of young entrepreneurs and SMEs on circular economy aspects will encourage them to adopt practices that fulfil the circularity values such as renewable energy sources, reduced use of virgin natural resources, water conservation practices etc. This will positively affect the local economy and the local environment. Moreover, the local authorities will also benefit from the events which will assist in adopting solutions and strategies in the municipality that promote circular economy and reduce the carbon footprint. Also, simple people who will be informed about the circular economy principles will be encouraged to adopt such solutions in their daily lives, improving this way the life quality in the local communities while protecting the environment. The website that will be created on circular economy literature and case studies will also enhance the awareness of circularity issues and values and will facilitate access to circular economy information for the wider audience. One parameter is attendance at the two events we will organize. A high attendance will indicate the interest and the need of people and stakeholders to learn about the circular economy. Also, they will measure the participation of different stakeholders (SMEs, authorities, companies, and a wide audience). Another indicator is the discussion and sharing of posts relevant to our projects on social media. In addition, they will measure the visits to the website we will create for one year
